The places no road reaches

Only by boat

The province runs 11 ferries from the island of Newfoundland: to islands and outports with no road in, and across the Strait to Labrador. Here is each one: the drive to its wharf, measured, what is across, and where its schedule is.5 of them carry no cars: you leave the car at the wharf and go over on foot.

Check the boat the morning you go. Schedules change with the season and the vessel on duty; the province posts each change on the service's own page and live on 511nl.ca. When the boat doesn't sail: the fallbacks near Gander →

And France. The boat to Saint-Pierre et Miquelon leaves from Fortune, on the Burin Peninsula: Going to Saint-Pierre →

What is across, whether the boat carries cars and the crossing times in quotation marks are the province's, from each service's page (Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Marine Services: each service's own page), read 2026-10-08. The Labrador services are left out: this site covers the island. Drives: OSRM driving profile (router.project-osrm.org) over OpenStreetMap, door to wharf, measured 2026-10-08, by road.
