Colony of Avalon, Ferryland

Parks Canada's designation record calls this a 17th-century archaeological site at Ferryland, made a National Historic Site of Canada in 1953 as the site of the house of Sir George Calvert, later Lord Baltimore, who founded the Ferryland plantation in 1621; the same record notes the house later became the seat of Sir David Kirke's government of Newfoundland, and that excavation and research continue under the Colony of Avalon Foundation. The address Parks Canada gives is Pool Road in Ferryland, a turn off Route 10. What is open, and when tours run, is the site's operator's to state — this page doesn't.
